Women’s Fit Jackets

A women’s jacket is a different pattern, not a men’s jacket in smaller sizes. The shoulder slope, the armhole position, the bust allowance and where the waist sits are all different, and a scaled-down men’s block gets every one of them slightly wrong at once.

The result is a jacket that seems close on a size chart and is uncomfortable to work in: the armhole sits low so the arms cannot come forward, the waist lands in the wrong place, and the front either gapes or pulls. It is usually blamed on the wearer’s size when it is a pattern problem.

So these are drafted on their own block. And the shoulder rule applies exactly as it does everywhere else, which is why our fit sample sets for a mixed team always include both blocks — sizing a whole workforce off one of them is the most common reason a uniform programme has to be redone.
